Maybe Someday, Colleen Hoover | Book Review

Screen Shot 2016-09-04 at 15.20.06

I am sorry, I need a moment to get myself together to actually write this review…

The feels and pain is still raw…

But yes, I finally read a Colleen Hoover book and don’t know why the hell I did not read one sooner!

I just want to share this quote with you from the book itself because I feel like it is just so me and you might feel like it is you too ๐Ÿ˜›

“Stop. I don’t like compliments. It’s awkward” (Ridge: 89)

Anyone else or is it just me?

I also want to mention how cute my GoodReads review is for this book ๐Ÿ˜› โค

GoodReads Synopsis:

Sydney is living in an idyllic bubbleโ€”she’s a dedicated student with a steady job on the side. She lives with her best friend, has a great boyfriend, and the music coming from the balcony opposite hers is fast becoming the soundtrack to her life. But when Sydney finds out her boyfriend is cheating on her, the bubble bursts. The mysterious and attractive man behind the music, Ridge, gives Sydney hope that she can move on and they begin to write songs together. But moving on is harder than she expects, Sydney can only hopeโ€ฆ.

Maybe somedayโ€ฆ

Colleen Hoover draws you in to this passionate tale of music, love and betrayalโ€ฆ

Raw Emotions And So Much Crying โค

I have two pages worth of notes I took whilst reading this book and I can only think to tell you of the tally I kept ๐Ÿ˜‚ ย Once I realised that this was not going to a lovey-dovey mushy, cute romantic love story, I decided to keep score on the amount of times I cried…

But, I actually think there was more times and I don’t want to seem like an emotional wreck who really needs to get herself together and leave her house every once in a while.

Words cannot describe how much this book tore my heart apart and shattered it into a million pieces, which is ironic because I need words to write this post. I am going to take this one point at a time and hope I don’t word vomit all of these feels.

First of all, can I just point out how much I respect and admire Colleen for incorporating music into a novel. Many have done so but music is meant to be heard and not read in lyrics. I loved how she paired with Griffin Peterson to create an album on all the songs Ridge and Sydney wrote together.

Not only did it bring the story and characters to life, it brought those pent up emotions and deep desire to the surface. Words can only do so much to convey how we feel, but music can really reach the heart… that was probably the deepest thing I have ever said in my life ๐Ÿ˜‚ ย Anyway, the soundtrack conveys the sensual feelings which really draws in the readers.

By the amount of times I have cried, you can probably guess that this was more of a serious book. However, there were so many times I laughed so hard. Colleen included so many moments of humour. There would be a scene where I was literally on the verge of tears and throwing the book across the room and Colleen would put in a sentence that would literally make me burst into hysterics. She balances out the need to laugh and cry which is a talent in itself in my opinion.

Colleen’s characters were just so easy to fall in love with.

Sydney, although has had her heart broken and trust betrayed, bounces back just like any other girl would. She is the epitome of female strength in this book. She walks away from drama only to walk right back into again and yet doesn’t let it get in the way of wanting to write music and creating powerful lyrics.

Ridge was probably the sweetest and most heart-wrenching character I have ever read about in all of my book existant life. He has his own issues to deal with in his life both present and past. I really think he was just more of an inspiration more than anything else. I really don’t want to say much about him because I feel like it is better for your eyes to widen and jaw to drop when you read about him. All I want to say is that he never let life get him down or hold him back from doing something he loves and is passionate about.

Warren was just a character in this book… that may be an Irish phrase that not many of you might understand ๐Ÿ˜› His humour and light-heartedness was the balance I was talking about previously. He is just your typical guy who watches porn and fantasises of hot girls. No offence to any guys out there ๐Ÿ˜› I really liked his character and how he treats Sydney as his best friend he has known forever, not to mention Ridge who has been his best friend forever.

There is not much else I can say that will not spoil you all. If you have not read this book and would love to experience all of the feels and tears you can pick it up at Book Depositoryย orย Amazon. You can also listen to the soundtrackย as you read.

And all I am going to say is… prepare yourselves when you get to the end people!

If you have read this book, want to wallow with me?

Thank you so much for reading this review guys and I hope you having a nice and peaceful Sunday,

      1. Trust me they will! (Or they did for me anyway) I haven’t read a book by her that I didn’t love so far. I actually read Ugly Love after I read this but I also highly recommend It Ends With Us. That one is by far her best! ๐Ÿ˜Š

I hope you end up enjoying her other books! โ™ฅ
